How Much Does a Vasectomy Hurt?

August 2, 2013

The only uncomfortable part of the procedure for most men is the numbing medication. We use a spray-jet to deliver the anesthetic. After the scrotum is numbed, you shouldn’t feel any part of the vasectomy afterwards.

Typically, there will be some discomfort on the day of the vasectomy, which will slowly resolve within the next two to three days. We advise wearing scrotal support (boxer briefs, compression shorts, etc.) for one week, as well as refraining from exercise and intercourse for a week. This speeds up the recovery process.

Vasectomies are a relatively simple and quick procedure, and due to its minimally-invasive nature it does not hurt very much or require much recovery time. As many a wife will note, the discomfort is nothing compared to experience of childbirth.

For more info, and a laugh, here’s The Daily Show’s Jason Jones reporting on his experience getting a vasectomy. Note that this video is uncensored and contains adult material.
