April 10th is officially Austin’s Living Kidney Donor Day.
On the first-ever Austin’s Living Kidney Donor Day, our own Austin urologist Dr. Koushik Shaw accepted the proclamation from Austin City Council Member Leslie Pool. The celebration was held at the Kidney Transplant Center at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center.
Kidney donors, recipients, and health care workers were present at the event, with special honor given to those living donors who gave up one of their kidneys to save the life of another.
You can see photos of the event from the Austin American-Statesman here.
This Urologist Can Handle a Ball
As part of National Donate Life Month, Dr. Shaw was, in his words, “humbled to be chosen” to throw the opening pitch for UT baseball. On Friday, April 7, Dr. Shaw took to the field to raise awareness of the National Donate Life Living Donor Registry. That evening, The University of Texas claimed a victory over Kansas, perhaps due to a little karmic help from Dr. Shaw and St. David’s Medical Center.
