Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are no fun. It’s not unusual to get a UTI every once in a while and they are generally treated pretty easily with antibiotics, but if you’re getting them frequently, it may be time to see a doctor.
We tend to think of UTIs in younger women as being associated with sexual intercourse, but recurring UTIs can also be caused by problems with the bladder. Tests like an ultrasound, CT scan or urine culture can help determine if the bladder is the cause of UTI problems.
If the bladder is healthy, your doctor can prescribe antibiotics to take before and after intercourse to help prevent infection, or, for post-menopausal women, estrogen based creams to help mitigate the hormonal changes and dryness that can lead to yeast infections.
A simple thing you can do to help prevent yeast infections is to get plenty of vitamin, which makes urine more acidic and kills bacteria.
