May 1, 2021

Happy May Women!

It’s Women’s Health Month!

The American Urological Association and the Urology Care Foundation have challenged women to commit to making choices that are not only great for their overall health, but that are especially great for women’s urologic health!

And men, just so you know, these challenges are not just for women! They apply to you too, so join us!

Austin Urology Institute is accepting the challenge!

This month, there are four weekly “Get Up and Go” challenges to improve your urologic health. Each week, we will post a blog with your weekly challenge.

Why women’s health month and urology?

Women make up a large percentage of patients in urology. That may come as a surprise, but women’s health includes genitourinary health just as much as men’s. Although women have gynecologists that specialize in women’s health needs, sometimes a urologist is needed to dig a little deeper into a medical condition to evaluate and treat the condition either medically or surgically.

Common reasons women are seen in a urology practice:

-Overactive Bladder.
-Stress or urge incontinence
-Frequent UTIs
-Kidney stones
-Painful urination
-Low libido
-Pre/peri/post menopausal issues contributing to quality of life
-Pelvic floor dysfunction
-Pelvic floor prolapse
-Frequent or urgent urination
-Urinary cancers
