Happy Kidney Month! (Part I)

March 7, 2021

It’s National Kidney Month!

March has been designated the month to give a shout out to those kidneys and the tremendous amount of work they do in keeping you healthy. The kidneys play a vital role in your health and they are busy!

The kidneys are two fist-sized organs located in your back just at the end of your rib cage. They handle the body’s fluids and chemical levels.

The kidneys:
-Detox the blood
-Balance fluids throughout the body
-Remove water and waste from our blood through urine
-Balance electrolytes
-Help keep bones healthy
-Play a role in making red blood cells

Because the kidneys stay so busy helping to keep your body running well, it’s important to keep them healthy. One in three Americans is at risk for kidney disease, with 26 million Americans already diagnosed. There are no significant signs of kidney disease until it’s in the late stages, so treating your kidneys with care can help reduce your risk.
