At the Austin Urology Institute Dr.Shaw has the experience to perform Da Vinci Robotic Partial Nephrectomy. This process uses robotic instruments that are the size of a fingernail to go in and remove tumors. This causes smaller incisions and faster recovery.
In extreme cases a kidney can be surgically removed hopefully just removing the cancerous kidney and leaving the healthy kidney.
If both kidneys need to be removed, at the Austin Urology Institute, Dr. Shaw is one of two doctors in central Texas that participate in the Renal Transplant program at North Austin Medical Center.
