Men’s Health Month: June Get Up and Go Challenge, Week One

June 2, 2021

Happy June Guys!

It’s Men’s Health Month! The American Urological Association and the Urology Care Foundation have challenged men to commit to making healthy choices that are not only great for their overall health, but especially for their urologic health.

Austin Urology Institute is accepting the challenge. Join us!

This month, there are four weekly “Get Up and Go” challenges to improve your urologic health. Each week, we will post a blog with your weekly challenge. Here’s your challenge for week one.

Get Up and Go Challenge, Week 1: Get Up and Go Get Screened!

Your challenge this week is to commit to being screened for prostate and testicular annually,  or more often if recommended by your urologist.

Prostate cancer screening is suggested for men beginning at age 50. It may be recommended to start sooner than 50 depending on family history. Prostate cancer screening includes a yearly visit to your urologist’s office for a digital rectal exam and a lab test called a PSA (prostate specific antigen) that both “screen” for prostate cancer and prostate cancer risk. Prostate cancer is often asymptomatic, making regular screening even more important.

Testicular cancer screening is suggested for all men, but most especially men between the ages of 14-55. This is a routine exam checking for any lumps, bumps or abnormalities in the testicles. Monthly self exams are encouraged, however, it does not replace an annual exam by your urologist.

If you are willing to accept this challenge and are due for your prostate cancer screening or testicular cancer screening exam, contact Austin Urology Institute at 512.694.888 to schedule a consultation with a provider.
